Marshall County Schools Launches K-12 Virtual Public School

Marshall County Schools is proud to announce the expansion of its virtual learning program into a comprehensive K-12 virtual public school, designed to serve students across the district who seek an alternative to the traditional classroom experience.

For several years, the district has successfully offered online learning opportunities for secondary students. Now, with the launch of a tuition-free, remote instruction model for grades 9–12, even more students will have access to flexible, high-quality education—no matter where life takes them.

This new virtual school is open to students who reside within the Marshall County School District and provides a fully accredited curriculum, certified teachers, and the support necessary to thrive in a non-traditional learning environment. Whether learning happens from the comfort of home, the dance studio, the athletic field, or even abroad due to a parent’s job, education is no longer confined to a physical space—it's a destination each student can reach in their own way.

Marshall County Virtual School is more than just an alternative option; it's a pathway to personalized success.

Marshall County Schools is excited to partner with Edgenuity, a nationally recognized online learning platform, to support the launch of its new virtual high school program. This innovative initiative will serve students in grades 9–12 and offer flexible, high-quality education in core academic subjects, electives, credit recovery, career exploration, and technical courses.

Initially, instruction will be delivered by certified teachers employed by Edgenuity. However, the district plans to gradually incorporate more Marshall County Schools educators into the virtual program in a long-term plan.

The virtual high school will follow the same curriculum standards set by the Alabama State Department of Education and used in the district’s traditional brick-and-mortar schools. Students will progress through a self-paced learning model, completing course benchmarks independently and only reporting to the Marshall County Board of Education for state-required standardized testing.

While operational details are still being finalized, student attendance will be tracked through daily logins and time-on-task within the online platform.

Importantly, virtual students who live within the Marshall County School District will still be eligible to participate in athletics at the school to which they are zoned.

Looking ahead, district leaders envision the virtual program evolving into a fully independent school, with its own graduating classes, social events, and extracurricular opportunities—creating a robust and connected virtual learning community for students who need or prefer an alternative educational path.
